Council accepts Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety grant

At its regular meeting on Thursday, the Sierra Vista City Council accepted an Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant to enforce DUI/impaired and aggressive driving.

For over 20 years, the Sierra Vista Police Department has been a member of the Southeastern Arizona DUI Task Force. This task force operates enhanced enforcement deployments in partnership with other law enforcement agencies and relies on off-duty officers to volunteer to work overtime. The $78,782 grant will fund added costs SVPD incurs to participate in these deployments.

The grant funds will reimburse the City in the amount of $54,643 for overtime and $21,857 for employee related expenses. The amount of $2,282 was awarded within the grant to purchase a new preliminary breath test device and required mouthpieces.

Since this is a reimbursable grant, no additional budget appropriation is required.
