Review: July 8 Council Meeting

The The Sierra Vista City Council unanimously approved an amended intergovernmental agreement with Cochise County for court co-location and operations effective through June 30, 2022, at its regular meeting on Thursday.
The amended agreement appoints Justice of the Peace of Precinct V, which is currently Judge Kenneth Curfman, to serve as the Sierra Vista City Magistrate. Other changes in the amended agreement include language to clarify statutory references and procedural definitions. Under the agreement, the City’s annual contribution is $276,807.
The City Council also approved a judicial services contract with Judge Curfman, which sets his annual salary at $52,500 for serving as City magistrate. This item was approved in a 4 to 3 vote, with Mayor Rick Mueller, Mayor Pro Tem Rachel Gray, Council Member Carolyn Umphrey, and Council Member Angelica Landry voting in favor. Council Members William Benning, Gregory Johnson, and Mark Rodriguez voted against the contract.
