Consultation has concluded

The City of Sierra Vista acquired the 1.26-acre property on the southeast corner of Fry Boulevard and Fab Avenue in October, 2020. The City used an EPA Brownfield Grant administered by Cochise County to fund conceptual designs for its future redevelopment. The concepts (Concept A1 and Concept A2) provide options for private or public development of the southern-most section in the third phase of the project.

This project will address longstanding drainage issues south of that intersection, add more public parking needed for a more pedestrian-focused district, and develop a public gathering space to serve as a venue for events and help draw people to enjoy the area. Both concepts address these priorities and complement the City's other efforts to revitalize the West End.

The public is invited to provide comments regarding the concepts for redevelopment of this property by close of business on March 9. You can also choose which concept you prefer!

The City Council will discuss plans for this property and additional amendments to the West Sierra Vista Redevelopment Area Plan at its March 10 meeting at 5 p.m.

I wish I had know we could provide feedback before they started all of this. I thought the original idea was to build outdoor spaces close to the businesses and walking areas beyond the current parking to encourage more businesses with outdoor seating and entertainment. (Like a 4th Ave in Tucson) What we have now are over sized sidewalks in an area that has no businesses to attract pedestrians. I would vote for A2 but making it more an area to be able to hold small weekend festivals, live music and an area with something for the kids. Additionally, the city should give tax incentives for any business that moves into the west end and rehabs the building according to a matching standard and starts a business that lends to shopping, entertainment, arts, and food to encourage the foot traffic that they are preparing for. I have lived in Sierra Vista most of my life and have lived in other places as well. I once lived in Roswell NM which to me was a twin city to Sierra Vista. The only difference that I saw is that city had a ton of parks and in the summer time there would be a small festival in each park. Over a weekend, you could visit 7 different parks and attend 7 different festivals with food, shopping and live music. I wish we could accomplish that here. If it were a paid position in Sierra Vista, I would apply, unfortunately I do need to work and cannot quit my job. We have the population to support festivals, live music, etc.. we just need the right tools and leadership to make it happen.

Whatever one is chosen, for the love of all that is holy, please use fake grass. Using precious water to keep a lawn alive in the Arizona heat is completely unreasonable.
Would just love if the whole project is keeping environmental friendliness in mind, during creation.

I like A1 the best with the parking under the trees along Fry. Will the live/work village be affordable housing? Sure hope the lawn will be astroturf to conserve water/maintenance.

What we need in the West End is a GROCERY store. I cannot afford to get everything at the co-op. Not to mention they don't carry everything. This entire project is asinine and making it harder for those of us who use vehicles to go to the stores, that are not close enough to walk to, to get there and back. It is a pain to cross Fry from North to South and back again. My dead dog could manage a city better.

I like the idea of more off- street parking. I believe it will be an encouragement for folks to come and enjoy the parks. They both look great. But I vote for Concept A-1

I forgot to mention, something like this would be a great way to tie in the outdoor workspace, if that was a "goal."

My vote is more for a combination of the two. I like concept 2 but with the "phase 2" of concept 1, with the movie and artistic walls.
Where I love the idea of a work live space, Sierra Vista is known for the beauty that surrounds us; more city spaces to enjoy that beauty is a plus in my book. :) Plus brand new buildings would really stick out, especially if the surrounding owners do not take the offer of matching funds to upgrade. If there was a city ordinance to upgrade for a more uniformed look, then I would lean more to concept 1.

I vote for A2. I like the idea of live/work spaces but there are lots of older retail spaces along Fry which could be utilized for this.

I love the idea of the park, and since the city has had drainage problems in the past, maybe creating a splash park for the kids. The water can be recycled and it can be a safe place for kids

Prefer concept 2, with additional suggestions. The movie screen wall should also be incorporated in concept 2, in the larger phase area (3). Additionally, the plaza could be recessed with stadium type seating around to act as a music venue, etc. Take a look at the downtown plaza area in Flagstaff..good stuff.

Parking, parking, parking. Wasn't the Fry makeover supposed to include parking? What is the point of creating a walkable district if there is nowhere for people to leave their vehicles? We cannot count on businesses being happy to sacrifice their lots so people can walk around a revitalized West End. Rework Concept A.2 to remove the live work village and add parking. There are plenty of empty retail spaces in that area already; the city does not need to build more competitors.
